VCB AWARDS by: Andrée C.  VCB President..

News Flash !!!!! It’s a competition!!!!!      We’ve already received 8 nominations for the Velo Awards.  Don’t be left out take, a break from your holiday chores, think cycling, think summer and then nominate someone for a Velo Award in one or both of the following categories.

Most motivating  Member:  Is there someone in the club that got you out cycling, maybe someone who phoned you to ride, someone who challenged you to a time trial,  or someone who beat you at a time trial and made you train harder, or someone who packed a nummy picnic lunch for a morning tour.  We’ve all been there so take a minute to nominate that person.  Send the name and reason to Andrée Crépeau at acrepeau@ns.sympatico.ca

Commuter of the Year:  Nominate the person that for you is the ultimate commuter.   It could be the diehard that cycles everyday rain or shine, or the co-worker that started commuting and got a few more to try it out, or maybe it’s the fashionnista that didn’t let cycling stand in the way of her fashion statement.  Forward your nomination to Andrée Crépeau at acrepeau@ns.sympatico.ca

The awards will be handed out at the Velo Cape Breton Potluck Dinner.  See you there!

52-WBC by: Shelley Porter,  Coordinator of 52-WBC

"OK, my weekly rides have been in the dark now for lots of weeks, but this time of year it just seems . . . darker. The challenge is not to lose your courage in the face of the cold, or simply forget about riding in the busy-ness of getting ready for Christmas. We have almost made it. I have two rides left, Dec. 23 and Dec. 30.

You are an amazing bunch, and I am in awe particularly of you cycling commuters who make the trek to work all year round. Wish I could do that even in the summer! But as it is I'm late often enough doing that 40km drive in the car, so I better not push it with the boss.

Looking forward to the potluck, where I believe Jacques will finally reward us with accolades and exclamations of "job well done" and "look how skinny you are and by the way you need to clean that chain . . ."

Coldest ride this winter for me   Windchill -23 here in Ottawa

ONLY ONE RIDE LEFT FOR ME! to finish the year.

But I was thinking when I was out today that since the studded tires are on the bike and the winter oil on the chain I may as well stay in for 2010.

Enjoy your rides....

_____________ from:  Lynne P.   Dartmouth,  VCB #233 I am hoping for a couple of warmer rides on the week-end. It's been really cold here but at least no snow. Storm forecast for Monday and then rain on Tuesday. Better get my rides in on the week-end.

Thanks for the great leadership Shelley I know I would never have ridden all year without the motivation of 52WBC.

Thanks and Happy Holidays Everyone

___________

from:  Ivan L.  Moncton,  VCB #486   I’m still with you; having enjoyable rides for over an hour each week… at least. I’m so grateful to Velo Cape Breton for this challenge. It keeps me biking and advocating biking 52 weeks a year.   Many thanks,

____________

Audrey, Lynn and Ivan: Believe me, I would never have done this if I hadn't known all of you were "watching" me! So the motivation works both ways!
-Shelley

Life is not the dreams you have but the dreams you realize...

"Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love!

A Merry Christmas to each and everyone!
