Bike Adventure in Halifax...

I found myself in Halifax yesterday with a couple of hours to kill.  I was strolling around downtown, looking at people and architecture, when I noticed a bike shop on Barrington Street.  A sign on the window said, "Bikes for Rent."  I couldn't resist.  I had two hours before I had to leave so I asked what the price would be for a two hour rental.  The guy running the shop was surprised that someone was renting a bike in December.  He told me it would be $15.  For me, it was the perfect price.  I rented the bike and a helmet and set off.  As I put my foot to the pedal, I realized it was the first time I had ever cycled in Halifax.  I decided to see how much of the city I could cover in the short time I had.  I started toward the north end and cycled down Gottingen Street.  I went as far as the MacDonald Bridge and then headed back to the south end.  I took Barrington all the way to its end and then went up to St. Mary's and followed some side streets till I was thoroughly lost. What excitement!  I found myself in an extremely wealthy area by the Northwest Arm of the harbour.  I loved speeding down and crawling up the hills!  I next went out past Dalhousie to Robie Street and Quinpool Road before heading back downtown.  It was a great way to see the city.  It was even more exciting because it was such a spontaneous idea!  This is what I love about bikes - they are cheap and easy in every way!  It was nice to so easily experience Halifax in a new and exciting way!
